Trouble Choosing an
Ergonomic Keyboard?
Problem one: You spend
hours at the computer every day and want
to get more done, yet feel great at day's
end. However, "exotic ergo products" are
too expensive, and you can't afford a
learning curve.
Problem two: Your team
has aggressive productivity goals. You
need to improve efficiency, but
your colleagues will do their best if you can
improve comfort as well.
Problem three: Your call center
has multiple shifts using the same computers,
which makes it hard to provide ergonomic
solutions that work well for everyone.
Common
solution: Provide each
workstation with all adjustable tools--a
well-fitted chair, a thin keyboard/mouse
tray, and a small-footprint ergonomic keyboard
centered in front of the monitor. Provide
initial training and occasional reminders on how
to adjust this equipment to maintain that elusive
“neutral posture.”
The keyboard is often the most
difficult item to choose. The following article
will help you decide what to look for in a
mainstream adjustable ergonomic keyboard, will
compare the leading brands, and will help you
decide which might best meet your
needs.

Low-Force Numeric Keypad with
2-Port USB Hub
Kinesis has recently,
introduced our new low-force numeric keypad that’s
ideal for any data entry
environment. Features include:
Low-force mechanical
key switches – designed by Kinesis these are
the same low-force and tactile switches used in
our Contoured keyboards. These long-travel
switches also have twice the operating life of
typical membrane switches.
Enhanced keypad
layout - four extra keys (Esc, Tab,
Backspace, =) above the normal numeric keys speed
data entry without increasing
complexity
Integrated 2-Port USB
hub – connect other input devices such as
mice without requiring USB ports on your
computer (especially valuable for
laptops with only one USB port).
Flexibility in
use – separate keypad allows
positioning
to either side of your keyboard. This is especially
valuable with narrow keyboards such as the
Kinesis Maxim
and MiniTypeTM.

Foot
Switches - The Key to Increased
Productivity
In the early 1990s, Kinesis introduced the
first keyboard-linked foot switches to complement
the now-proven Contoured keyboard. The ability to
redirect key actions from overused fingers to feet
proved extremely beneficial in increasing both
productivity and comfort.
Kinesis now offers two types of foot
switches: those which are an extension of the
Contoured keyboard, and the Savant
EliteTM family of
stand-alone USB devices. The latter are
factory-programmed to perform mouse button
actions, but can also be customized to perform
virtually any imaginable keyboard
action.
