Kinesis Classic Keyboard Replaces venerable Model 130
with new features, same price
Bothell, Washington
-- Kinesis Corporation, the leading developer of ergonomic
computer keyboards and accessories, announced the launch of the Classic
contoured ergonomic keyboard family. The Classic family replaces
the Model 130 as Kinesis' basic programmable contoured
keyboard. While retaining the same list price and all the same
ergonomic features as its predecessor, the Classic keyboard
family offers additional features and models not previously
available in this price range.
The Classic has the same on-board memory
of its predecessor, the Model 130, supporting unlimited
remapping. However, new features include the ability to select
between 24, 36, and 48 macros up to maximum of 56 characters
long. Modifier keys can now be made "sticky" for one
keystroke to reduce awkward key combinations. Even with the basic
QWERTY-legended PC model, users can instantly switch between
QWERTY and Dvorak key mapping, and can purchase optional
footswitches and Keyware keyboard maintenance software for
Windows 3.1 and Windows 95.
In addition to the standard
PC-compatible keyboard, The Classic can be purchased as MPC
(Mac/PC switchable) and QD (QWERTY/Dvorak, dual legends)
switchable models. Just like Kinesis' other two lines of
contoured keyboards, the nonprogrammable Essential and the
advanced programmable Professional, a combined Classic MPC/QD
model is available. Sun-compatible Classic keyboards are also
available, bundled with the popular Sun Interface II.
Dr. William Hargreaves, CEO and
President of Kinesis, noted "The Model 130 has been Kinesis'
flagship model, as well as the company's best selling product.
However some customers who wanted MPC or QD models were not able
to afford the Professional or didn't need the accessories bundled
with that product line. The Classic allows us to offer more
ergonomic features and models in an affordable price range, while
our accessories, upgrade options, and limited lifetime warranty
create tremendous long-term value."
Kinesis Corporation invested almost two
years in research and development before introducing the first
U.S. QWERTY ergonomic keyboard late in 1992. The patented Kinesis
keyboard design provides thumbs-up operation for comfortable
forearms. The true-split, concave key wells maintain neutral,
comfortable positions for the wrists and arms, with easier
reaches for the keys and less strain on shoulders and backs.
Editing keys are moved from the pinkies to the thumbs and the
numeric keypad is embedded, where it is conveniently activated
with a function key or an optional foot switch. The compact,
symmetrical design allows the keyboard to be centered in any
workstation with plenty of room for a pointing device to the
side. The Cirque Touchpad II, also available from Kinesis, can be
positioned in the vacant middle section of the keyboard.
The Classic is Kinesis' first major
product introduction following the November 96 release of the
Professional. The Professional offers twice the on board memory
of the Classic to support much longer macros, and comes bundled
with a foot switch and Kinesis KeywareTM software. Kinesis also
launched The Essential in June of 1996 as its entry-level,
non-programmable keyboard targeting retail markets. These three
keyboard lines have refined Kinesis' original proven design has
been refined to offer products for all levels of computer users.
Each model offers an optimal combination of geometric and
functional features for maximum comfort and productivity.
Located in Bothell, Washington, Kinesis
Corporation celebrates its sixth year of operation, and fifth
year of continuous production of its highly-regarded contoured
keyboards. For more information about Kinesis Corporation and its
