KINESIS INTRODUCES REVOLUTIONARY, NEW
ERGONOMIC KEYBOARD, THE FREESTYLE
Bothell, Washington -- --Kinesis Corporation®, the leading innovator of ergonomic computer input devices, announces the launch of the Freestyle™ Convertible keyboard. The Freestyle design incorporates two years of intensive research including input from both ergonomists and health professionals. The result is the first mainstream ergonomic keyboard to offer interchangeable configurations accommodating the needs of each user.
The Freestyle family consists of the Freestyle Solo™ keyboard, plus the Freestyle Incline™ and Freestyle VIP™ accessory kits. Each may be purchased separately to allow individuals and organizations to choose the features best suited for each person.
Freestyle Solo
The heart of the Freestyle lineup is the Solo keyboard. A traditional but compact key layout makes adaptation a breeze, but that's where traditional keyboard design ends. The Solo consists of two keying modules connected together by the flexible Pivot Tether™, which allows infinite adjustment of the front opening angle (splay). Removing the Pivot Tether allows the two modules to completely separate up to eight inches, accommodating a range of shoulder widths (optional model provides 20 inch separation). Other features include:
- Driverless hot keys replacing mouse-intensive actions.
- Low-profile design to promote neutral wrist posture.
- Narrow footprint allowing closer reach of a mouse.
- Embedded 10-key with status LED. A separate 10-key is available for intensive number crunchers.
- Double wide Escape, Delete, and Backspace keys for faster editing.
- Quiet and tactile key switches.
Freestyle Incline Accessory Kit
The Freestyle Incline transforms the Solo into a moderately tented keyboard. The Solo keyboard mounts easily onto the Incline base, providing a 10-degree fixed tenting angle and adjustable splay. The Incline is an ideal replacement for fixed-split and tented keyboards such as the Microsoft Natural. Features include:
- 10-degree fixed tenting of keying modules.
- Adjustable splay (up to 30 degrees) of both keying modules.
- Keying modules can be locked at any given splay angle.
- Markings in 10-degree increments are embossed on the base, to facilitate reproducible splay settings
- Padded palm supports.
- The Solo keyboard can be easily removed from the base for individuals that require full separation but no tenting.
Freestyle VIP Accessory Kit
The VIP (V-Lifter and Integrated Palm Supports) is perfect for individuals that require more tenting, variable splay and/or complete separation of their keyboard. The VIP accessories attach securely to the underside of the Solo keyboard and allow quick and reproducible slope settings of 10 and 15 degrees. Features include:
- Instant switching between lateral slopes of 10 and 15 degrees with rock-solid stability.
- Integrated, padded palm supports ensure that wrists are neutral while resting.
- Use with the Pivot Tether for managed splay, or without it when total separation is desired.
Jon Biggs, Kinesis' Director of Sales and Marketing explains, "We had two main design objectives in creating the Freestyle: 1) provide the widest possible array of ergonomic features without complex or costly mechanisms; and 2) create a keyboard family that would meet a full range of corporate and user needs. We accomplished these goals by creating a modular design which allows users to pick the features they need. Corporations can benefit from standardizing on the Freestyle family because it offers productivity-boosting configurations meeting the majority of their keyboard requirements with a common user interface and driverless installation."
Health and Safety professionals attending the most recent National Ergonomics Conference agree, having awarded the Kinesis Freestyle their "Attendees Choice Award" as one of the products most likely to increase productivity and profitability, while improving workplace health and safety.
Suggested list price for the Freestyle Solo keyboard is $99.00 and $40 for either accessory kit.
