For Immediate Release January 20, 2009 Kinesis Corporation U.S. PATENT OFFICE ISSUES DESIGN PATENT
FOR KINESIS FREESTYLE KEYBOARD Bothell, Washington -- Kinesis Corporation®, the leading innovator of ergonomic computer input devices, a is pleased to announce the issuance of U.S. design patent # D585,063 for the Kinesis Freestyle™ keyboard. The design patent covers the visual appearance of the Freestyle keyboard, and prohibits the production, copying, importation and/or use of products with a similar design without the express written permission or license from Kinesis. Jon Biggs, Director of Sales & Marketing, states "our appearance goal for the Freestyle family was a distinctive look which could not be mistaken for any other keyboard. Working with Seattle-based Slipstream Design, we created a sleek design that defines the Freestyle keyboard brand, and which is now protected by the newly issued patent from "look alike" products." Because of the substantial investment in developing and marketing the Kinesis Freestyle family of keyboard products and the product's excellent reputation in the marketplace, Kinesis does not currently plan to license the design. The Freestyle design incorporates two years of intensive research including input from both ergonomists and health professionals. The result is the first mainstream ergonomic keyboard to offer interchangeable configurations accommodating the needs of each user. Located in Bothell, Washington, Kinesis Corporation is in its 18th year of serving the comfort and productivity needs of computer users. After introducing the first letter-based alternative keyboard (the Contoured keyboard) in the U.S. in 1992, Kinesis pioneered the use of foot switches for data input.
