I purchased one of your Kinesis Classic keyboards in January of 1998. I've never regretted that
decision. I use the computer quite a lot, and I wanted a new keyboard to alleviate some of the
stresses I was putting on my wrist. I drum a bit, and am very aware of how my wrists feel. I saw
the Kinesis contoured keyboard in Men in Black, and knew from that instant that I had to have it...
...I primarily use my computer for games; in particular Quake and all of it's derivatives... The
layout of this keyboard is perfect for this type of game. As well as being more like the keypad w
ith it's straight rows of keys it also offers more flexibility. The flexibility comes with the
ability to reach 28 keys other than the movement keys without moving even my wrist. What's even
better is that it's perfect for righty's and lefty's. The contoured keyboards are the perfect
controller by far for any First-Person or Third-Person shooters.
Recently I attended The Frag2, a Quake/gaming convention and Cyberathalete Professional League
tournament. I volunteered to referee the 1-on-1 tournament. We were using a bank of about 16
standard machines for the tournament, and I was having to use a normal keyboard. I took me about
an hour before I got fed up with the lesser functionality of it. I quickly walked over to my
machine on the other side of the convention and grabbed my Kinesis, mouse, and configuration file.
This was almost a mistake. That's a complement and you'll see why in a minute. Everything was
going great. It was especially helpful to have my copy and paste macros available to me for
moving around screen shots and recordings of the games from client machines to the server.
I think it took about 10 minutes before people started taking double takes in my direction, more
accurately the keyboards, while looking around the tournament area. "What the hell is that?" they
would ask. "It's a Kinesis keyboard." I'd start and then proceed to give them the whole line on
what it is, what it does, and how much I love it. Of course the most common question other than
that was, "How long did it take you to get used to it?" People were amazed when I told them about
15 minutes... Many Quake players are looking for an edge on the competition and would jump at a
chance to own something that made them more relaxed.
There is one other big plus about this keyboard. It's very sturdy; more sturdy than most people
would think. I take it to work everyday, and it gets some abuse on the way, but I've never had a
problem with it. I'm very happy with my Kinesis Classic, and I hope a few more people will be happy
with theirs after my trip to The Frag2, and after reading this letter if it's posted on the
Kinesis page. Thanks Kinesis for making a superb keyboard.
