Changing macro memory configuration (24, 36, or 48 macros).
Your keyboard should default to 24 macros with a maximum of 56 (Classic, Ergo Elan) or 142
(Professional) characters per macro. If you select the "36 macro" mode,
the maximum macro size is 38 (Classic, Ergo Elan) or 94 (Professional) characters, and
with "48 macro" mode the maximum macro size is 28 (Classic, Ergo Elan) or 70
(Professional) characters.
Important note: Changing this setting will ERASE
ANY PROGRAMMING you have done to your keyboard. Furthermore, any KeyWare files you
have saved can only be used (i.e. downloaded to the keyboard) with the same macro memory
setting they were uploaded from.
Before changing macro memory configuration: Note
that if you select 36 or 48 macros, very fast typists may find that the keyboard cannot keep up with them for certain common letter combinations when one or more macros
have been created. This is because when a macro have been created, the keyboard must check
each of 24, 36, or 48 macro positions between every keystroke to determine if that
keystroke should be sent to the computer or should instead be replaced by the contents of
a macro.
Test typing with new macro memory setting before extensively
programming your keyboard: Before you invest lots of time in customizing
your keyboard with 36 or 48 macros, change to the memory setting you wish to test and
create one simple macro. Then type a simple passage for several minutes to determine
if you can outpace the keyboard when typing familiar words and letter combinations. For
example, you may lose the "e" in "the" because that is usually typed
faster than other letter combinations.
To change macro memory configuration: Press Progrm + Ctrl
+ either F2 (for 24 macros), F3 (for 36 macros, or F4
(for 48 macros). Note that you have to press Progrm first, then add Ctrl, and finally add
the appropriate function key. The keyboard lights flash for several seconds (release all
the keys as soon as the flashing begins).
